John Sugg (he/him/his) serves in the Student Success area of the UCAE and coordinates the Students Obtaining Success (SOS) Peer Mentoring program. He collaborates daily with the SOS Graduate Assistants and undergraduate peer mentors in providing essential academic and personal support and accountability to the 200 students participating in the program each year.
Upon completing his undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Kentucky (GO BIG BLUE!), John pursued his dream career in higher education, including positions in residence life & housing, registrar operations, academic advising & student services, and most recently, student support & learning assistance. As a 20+ year veteran of higher education, John has served at a diversity of institutions, including Oxford College of Emory University, Northern Kentucky University, Wingate University, University of California San Diego and the University of South Carolina.
John is committed to helping students achieve their educational and career goals because he believes education creates life legacy. As a First-Generation student himself, John is particularly interested in engaging First Year/Transfer, under-represented, and at-risk student populations.
When John is not on campus, he enjoys spending time with his wife, son, and daughter (and 3 crazy dogs!) in Columbia, South Carolina.
