Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign up for Students Obtaining Success?

Students eligible to participate in SOS will be contacted by Student Success about registering for the program. If you have any questions about applying to the program, please call us at  704-687-5441, email or stop by Colvard 2300.

How often do I meet with my mentor and how long does the program last?

Students (mentees) meet with their mentor one (1) time per week for one (1) hour.  The SOS program lasts for one (1) entire academic semester (16 weeks). Students are limited to participating in SOS one (1) semester. (The strength of the program is based upon the weekly mentor meeting so attendance is required. Students who cannot commit to attending the weekly meeting should consider other academic support options.)

Where do the meetings with my mentor take place?

All SOS meetings are held in the meeting rooms in the University Center for Academic Excellence (UCAE), Colvard 2300.

How am I matched with my mentor?

All participants are asked to complete an online assessment when they sign up for the program that provides a great deal of information regarding their academic journey. After the information is reviewed, students are then matched with a mentor based on their individual needs.
